Spending the Summer in the countryside, remembering the elaboration of the raisin
In the beginning of the 20th century in Jalon and the rest of the Marina Alta Region the harvest of the Muscatel grape and the laborious craft involved in the processing and elaboration of the raisin, supplied work to many people. In the country the raisin season was stretching some three months, with the maximum between August and September. The little campo casitas proliferated which with their “Riu Raus” and driers, constituted the main centres of raisin elaboration, as well as temporary work homes. In effect, the farmers of the area, once the summer begun, abandoned their village houses to stay in the campo. It was “Spending the Summer”, in order to look after the vintage and the harvest of the raisin better.

Wine tourism
The Vall de Pop in the Marina Alta joins the Alicante route for wines.
In this region of the Marina Alta the epicentre of wine production is in the Vall de Pop. A commonwealth of nine villages, which have grape vines that are centauries old as their seal of identity. Some wines that in a little over five years, have become a symbol in the Valencia Community, and are an important part of the Guarantee of Origin and a Quality of Wine from Alicante.

The Mostra de Vins I Menjars Tradicionals (The Traditional Food and Wine Expo) will be at the Jardin de Turia from the 1st to the 5th of April
Arriving on time for its spring date, a year on and the Mostra de Vins I Aliments Tradicionals de la Comunitat Valenciana celebrates its 21st edition. It will open on the 1st and will remain open until Sunday the 5th in the evening, in its usual venue of recent years, at the Jardines del Viejo Cauce del Turia, next to the Alameda Bridge.
Yesterday Jalon inaugurated its winery
It was built by the agricultural cooperative, with a budget of three million
The partner farmers annually harvest fifty thousand arrobas ( 1 X arroba = 25 lbs) of grapes.
Jalon, a tiny but prosperous village ensconced in the northern part of the province, almost in the centre of the fertile valley, has given us yet more proof of how much can be achieved when interests unite towards an identical common goal. Its Cooperativa Sindical de Labradores y Ganaderos (Syndicate Cooperative of farm workers and ranchers) which groups together almost the totality of farmers has already brought about unmistakable demonstrations of how much can be achieved through mutual collaboration. Yesterday afternoon, that is to say the 22nd October 1962, will remain written in local history, because on this day the building which epitomizes the common interests of this agricultural community was built: its solemn and well installed winery.

BodegasXaló has elected the CDT in Denia as the place to publicly present their new creations. This includes the Bahía de Dénia Brut Nature, “one of the first and few sparkling wines created with 100% Muscat grapes from the Vall de Pop”, according to the wine cellars oenologist. The president of BodegasXalo, Pepe Juan Reus, is “very hopeful” of the new project and wishes that “its circulation will be a complete success”.
