The Vall de Xaló and the Bahia de Denia triumph at the Cordoba National 2008
Both wines receive the Mezquita Silver and Bronze prizes
The cooperative winery Verge Pobre of Xaló is still harvesting successes. Two wines elaborated in this establishment, which exceeds a half a century of life, and with wines from the lands of the Vall de Xaló, have been recently recognized on a national level in the city of Cordoba.
The managers of the cooperative were very satisfied with the success achieved, a sign of the good work they have been putting into the elaboration of their wines.
The Muscatel wine Vall de Xaló and the Bahia de Denia, both from the 2007 season, were awarded the Silver Mezquita and Bronze Mezquita prizes respectively, and in the 14th national wines contest Ciudad de Cordoba, where nearly 400 wines of different Designations of Origin and varieties from the whole of Spain were presented.
The jury was formed of representatives from the professional associations of the catering and wine distribution businesses, sommeliers, wine bar owners, enologists from the wine growing regions, wineries and regulatory councils as well as journalists from specialist publications.
The prize giving was celebrated in the garden of the Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos de Cordoba. Amongst other authorities, those present included the Mayoress of Cordoba, Rosa Aguilar; the Presiden t of the Aula del Vino, Manuel Maria Lopez Aleandre, and Agriculture and Fisheries of Andalucia delegate, Francisco Zurera, as well as representatives from the prize winning wineries.
The Cooperative Winery of Xaló was represented by a spokesperson from the Junta Directiva as well as the salesman of the products offered by it. The two prize winning wines in this prestigious national wine contest, endorsed by the Ministry for the Environment, Rural and Marine environment, as well as by the Agricultural and Fisheries Council of Andalucia, were the mistela Vall de Xaló Muscatel 2007, which received the Silver Mezquita in the category of sweet wines; and the wine known as Bahia de Denia 2007, which received the Bronze Mezquita in the category of wines of aromatic variety.
On the other hand, one of its star products of the season, Malvarrosa, a rosé of great quality and sweetness, exceeded all expectations and the cooperative is already thinking of launching it at all the national and international wine contests, in view of the success it has had with the usual clientele.
Although all the products from the Bodegas Xalo are of Alicante Designation of Origin, this Malvarrosa carries the Valencia Designation of Origin.
