“Vall de Xaló” from the BodegasXaló wine cellar (Vinos Alicante DOP) has been awarded first price in the “Best Muscatel of the Year” category, organised by Proava, in the annual wine tasting competition held by the Bodegueros y Licoristas Els Bodeguers association, which was held in the Ruralcaja-Grupo CRM foundation centre. It is the best acknowledgement for this100% muscatel wine, in the only competition in Spain for its variety, and it’s another to add on to its long list of prizes and acknowledgements.
The wine tasting was based on the theme “Saint Valentine- Muscatel Day in the Valencia Community”, organised by Proava, with the aim of promoting the consumption of this esteemed liquor, which is one hundred percent natural and native to the area, as well as recognising its sale potential as a Valentines Day gift; a campaign that the DOP in Alicante named “Muscatel in Love”.
The wine tasting carried out by Els Bodeguers, in the category of Muscatel Liquor Wines, included the participation of one of the nine semi-finalists from the “Golden Nose 2012”, José Luis Llorens. Mr Llorens is a member of the association and formed part of the jury of 7 critically acclaimed professionals who participated in a “blind” taste test of the 21 samples presented from all areas of the Valencia Community.
The General Director for Agribusiness and Rural Development, Marta Valsangiacomo, presented the awards to the winning wine cellar representatives in this year’s competition, now in its 17th year.
The Jalon Valley, in the Marina Alta, has as its centre BodegasXaló, who will make majority of Muscatel productions in the area. Due to its popularity and tradition, the muscatel from the area is an exceptional product that is associated with the architectural culture, fiestas, ancestral rites and Mediterranean flavour, which are all represented in the “Vall de Xaló”, a wine that has been granted the Protected Designation of Origin certificate.
